On Sunday October 14th from Noon to 3PM, the East Herkimer Fire Department will be hosting an community-wide open house and chicken barbecue. There will be various demonstrations and equipment displays for all to see. The open house is open to all and is FREE. If you would like to purchase a chicken barbecue, tickets are available from any member or at the door at the cost of $10.00 each.
The East Herkimer Fire Department along with Little Falls, Herkimer, Mohawk, Ilion, and Frankfort Fire Departments will be working with Summit Lake Consulting over the next few months to conduct a study on the status of fire protection in the area. The study will focus on the current status of each department, its equipment, funding, and staffing along with responses to emergencies. Based on this focus, the consulting group is expected to make recommendations on any efficiencies that can be gained to help our departments to bridge current funding and staffing shortfalls. All involved are looking forward to the study as a means to get an external evaluation of what we are doing right and what we can do to make things better for our communities.
