On Saturday 8/25, the East Herkimer and Schuyler Fire Departments participated in a joint training drill at A&D Auto Recycling on State Route 28 in the Town of Herkimer. A&D Auto donated lot space and two vehicles for firefighters to train on the use of hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life).
The East Herkimer Fire Department assisted the Frankfort Fire Department along with departments from four counties at the scene of a major fire at the former Union Tools Factory. The fire consumed approximately eight buildings during the blaze.
The East Herkimer Fire Department provided manpower, a tanker and an engine to assist the Middleville Fire Department at the scene of a large barn fire in the early morning hours of July 31, 2012 on Hard Scrabble Road in the Town of Fairfield. Middleville was also assisted at the scene by Newport, Salisbury, and Mohawk Fire Departments along with KVAC ambulance. Schuyler Fire Department was on standby at the Newport Fire Station. Several head of cattle were lost in the blaze.
The East Herkimer Fire Department along with multiple fire agencies assisted the Poland Fire Company on July 18, 2012 at the scene of several structures on fire including a large barn and a residence. Water was shuttled to the scene by approximately a dozen tankers.
