The DEC open burn ban has been lifted, but Town of Herkimer residents are reminded that in order to burn brush, they must first obtain a permit from the Town Offices. The burning of household trash, papers, and rubbish is banned year round by DEC. Residents are permitted to have small contained outdoor cooking or recreational fires without a permit so long as natural wood is being burned.
