Reminder to all Town of Herkimer residents that the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation has banned all burning of brush and similar materials from  March 16 through May 14. Permits for burning will not be issued during this period for the Town of Herkimer. Anyone that plans on burning brush within the NYS DEC guidelines after May 14 must apply for a permit at the Town of Herkimer Offices located at 114 N. Prospect Street, Herkimer. A Town of Herkimer Fire Warden will visit the proposed burn location and review it for safety prior to the issuance of a permit.

Thank you for preventing unnecessary fire department responses this spring!

The famous East Herkimer Fire Department Annual Winter Chicken BBQ will be held on Sunday, February 26th from 12:00-3:30pm. Tickets are available for a $15.00 donation.

Please take notice that a special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the East Herkimer Fire District will take place at 7:00 PM on the evening of Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the East Herkimer Fire Station, 193 Main Road, East Herkimer.  The purpose of the meeting, pursuant to Town Law Section 105, is to present the preliminary 2023 budget to all interested residents and to receive and act on any comments offered regarding said budget. The preliminary budget totals $143,000, which is an increase of 1.025% over the 2023 budget.

All concerned citizens of the East Herkimer Fire District (which includes all of the Town of Herkimer outside the Village) are invited to attend this meeting.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Election of the East  Herkimer Fire District will take place on December 13, 2022 between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire House located at 193 Main Road, East Herkimer, NY 13350, for the purpose of electing two Fire Commissioner , one for a five (5) year term, commencing January 1, 2023 and ending December 31, 2027, and the other for a two (2 ) year term, commencing January 1, 2023 and ending December 31, 2024. All voters registered with the Herkimer County Board of Elections on or before November 21, 2022 shall be eligible to vote.

Candidates for District Office shall have their names files in petition form, signed by twenty five qualified voters of the district, with the Secretary Nadine Lindsay of the East Herkimer Fire District, at 148 Pine Grove Road, Herkimer, no later than twenty days before the election, November 23, 2022. The petition must identify the office they are seeking.
