 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the undersigned having been elected Commissioners of the East Herkimer Fire District in the Town of Herkimer, New York, by the voters of said Fire District pursuant to Section 175 of the Town law of the State of New York hereby give notice that voting for all Fire District residents shall be held in the East Herkimer Fire Station, 193 Main Road in said District on Tuesday the 8^TH day of December, 2020, between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM for the purposes of electing a Fire Commissioner for a term of five (5) years starting January 1, 2021.           

Every elector of the East Herkimer Fire District (the area of the Town of Herkimer outside the Village of Herkimer) who shall be a registered voter of the Town and who shall have resided in the Fire District for a period of thirty days preceding this election shall be qualified to vote.

Any resident of the East Herkimer Fire District who qualifies to vote is also qualified to run for the office of Fire Commissioner.

Nominating petitions for the office of Fire District Commissioner may be obtained by contacting Fire District Secretary Nadine Lindsay, or any of the officials listed below.  Said petitions must be filed with the Fire District Secretary before 7:00 PM on December 1, 2020.

Please take notice that a special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the East Herkimer Fire District will take place at 7:00 PM on the evening of Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the East Herkimer Fire Station, 193 Main Road, East Herkimer.  The purpose of the meeting, pursuant to Town , Law Section 105, is to present the preliminary 2021 budget to all interested residents and to receive and act on any comments offered regarding said budget.  All  concerned citizens of the East Herkimer Fire District (which includes all of the Town of Herkimer outside of the Village of Herkimer) are invited to attend this meeting.  Face masks will be required to be worn and social distancing rules will be followed for this meeting.

The East Herkimer Fire Department Annual Winter Chicken BBQ was held on February 23, 2020. Thank you to all that stopped by and supported our very successful Chicken BBQ and Chinese Auction.

The famous East Herkimer Fire Department Annual Winter Chicken BBQ is just around the corner.  It will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 12:00-3:00pm. Tickets are now available for a $11.00 donation. There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Recruitment Open House to be Held at East Herkimer Fire Department on April 27, 2019 from 9:00am – 3:00pm 

As part of the ninth annual RecruitNY statewide initiative East Herkimer Fire Department will open its doors to area residents so they can learn about what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter in their community.

The past several years have been challenging for volunteer fire departments across New York State, as many are struggling with decreased membership and increased call volume. Like most volunteer fire departments, the East Herkimer Fire Department needs to bolster its ranks so it can continue to provide the optimum and necessary level of protection for its residents.

As part of RecruitNY, on Saturday, April 27 between 9:00am – 3:00pm the East Herkimer Fire Department located at 93 Main Road will join volunteer fire departments across the New York State at their respective firehouses for a unified recruitment drive. Not only will RecruitNY be an opportunity to highlight the rewards and responsibilities that come with being a volunteer firefighter, it will also raise public awareness about the need for volunteers.

Throughout the day, the East Herkimer Fire Department will conduct tours of the station and firefighter apparatus, allow visitors to try on firefighter gear, and provide activities and fascinating informational opportunities throughout the firehouse for visitors. The fire department will discuss the requirements to be a volunteer as well as conduct demonstrations, answer questions, and let visitors know how to get involved in the fire departments.

Last year, more than 350 fire departments across the state held recruitment open houses. FASNY is planning for an even higher turnout this year.

All are welcome to join us during RecruitNY.  This is an excellent opportunity for people to meet their local volunteer firefighters and learn a bit more about the fire service. Volunteer firefighters are everyday heroes who dedicate their spare time to helping people in their times of need. We are always looking for new members, and it is our hope that after seeing the incredible camaraderie of the firehouse up close, more people will be interested in becoming a part of our very special family.
