As of May 14th, the open burn ban by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has been lifted. However, Town of Herkimer residents must obtain a permit from the Town Clerk anytime that they intend to burn brush. Permit applications are available at the Town Offices located at 114 N. Prospect Street in the Village of Herkimer. NYS DEC no longer permits the burning of leaves, trash, or rubbish therefore outlawing burn barrels and the like.
