EHFD hosted Apparatus Operator-Emergency Vehicles (EVOC) course in May 2016. In attendance were firefighters from East Herkimer, Salisbury, Oneida Castle, Frankfort, Frankfort Center, Schuyler, Cedarville, and Stratford. State Fire Instructor was Stefano Napolitano.
Two firefighter recruits from EHFD completed Firefighter1/BEFO curriculum held at Frankfort-Center Fire Department on 12/12/15. Also in attendance were firefighters from Frankfort Center, Frankfort, Frankfort Hill, Cedarville, Schuyler and Remsen. State Fire Instructors were Dave Dye and Brian Reile.
On Saturday 10/5 the East Herkimer Fire Department was provided with in-service training on a newly purchased Paratech Rescue Strut System. The system is used not only to stabilize overturned vehicles, but can also provide enough lifting space to remove a victim that is trapped under a vehicle or machinery. The system was a joint purchase of the department and the fire district.
On Saturday 8/25, the East Herkimer and Schuyler Fire Departments participated in a joint training drill at A&D Auto Recycling on State Route 28 in the Town of Herkimer. A&D Auto donated lot space and two vehicles for firefighters to train on the use of hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life).
On June 26th, members of the EHFD participated in pump training drills. The drill challenged the speed and accuracy of pump operators by requiring them to flow tank water through a hose line while connecting to a hydrant. Once the connection was complete and hydrant water was ready, the operator was allowed to shut down the pump. The challenge was not to run out of tank water before the connections were complete.
